Parco Archeologico di Pompei
Founded by the Oscans in the 8th century BC, Pompeii is the only site in the world that reveals ancient Roman life in its entirety. Despite the tragedy that ensued, the huge eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD did have one positive outcome: it preserved everything in its original place, such as houses, inhabitants, objects and streets. The archaeological site covers an area of about sixty six hectares, and there are many buildings to admire: the Capitolium, the Temple of Apollo, the Basilica, the Temple of Vespasian, shops, inns, houses and ancient baths
