Andy Warhol at Basilica di Pietrasanta: special price ticket and free audio guide with artecard

In the heart of the historic center of Naples, the Basilica of Pietrasanta hosts the exhibition dedicated to the myth of Andy Warhol until February 23th. Over 200 works made by the  American genius who revolutionized the concept of Art and becoming the pop icon that we know.

The show features over 200 works, including Icons, Portraits, Polaroids, Music and Drawings from one of the leading figures in the Pop Art movement, with an entire section dedicated to Italy and a focus on the city of Naples. The timeless Campbell’s Soup, Liz Taylor, Jackie Kennedy and the famous Flowers are some of the serigraphies you can enjoy in Pietrasanta!

But, what is a serigraphy?

Warhol multiplies his works in series, making them multiples of themselves in order to cancel the uniqueness and identity of the subject. This is the process that he used for the realization, for example, of Marilyn portrait , made in 1962 on the basis of a photo shoot by Gene Korman: the beauty of the actress is gradually canceled by overlapping silkscreen color, giving as a final result a stylized face that is the only and unique image of Marilyn.

Continuing the visit, there is a section dedicated to the artist’s relationship with Italy and Naples,  with Vesuvius of 1985 and the Portrait of Beuys, created in 1980 on the occasion of the exhibition held at the Amelio Gallery, and one dedicated to Music. Yes, because not everyone knows that Andy Warhol was also a film producer and vinyl covers, signing some of the most famous in the history of music: from Lou Reed to the Rolling Stones, from Stevie Wander to The Velvet Underground (the famous peel cover of banana tells you something?).
