La Colombaia (dovecote) is the legendary summer home that belonged to Luchino Visconti. Nowadays it is the most important repository of Visconti’s memory, and since 2004 has housed the first nucleus of the permanent museum dedicated to the great director. The villa contains more than 300 photos, and these souvenirs combine to create a special account of Visconti’s life and works. La Colombaia is set between the sea, the sky and dense woodland, and in its grounds has an amphitheatre where once there was an old rose garden that Visconti himself tended to. The amphitheatre can seat up to 500 people, and in the summer season major cultural events, as well as concerts and film screenings, are held here.
