MADRE - Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina Napoli
MADRE is the first museum of Contemporary Art located in the historic centre of a city. The Portoguese architect Alvaro Siza has transformed the old Donnaregina palace into a splendid functional modern space for contemporary art. Standing in the hidden heart of Naples, where the city’s genuine spirit continues tothrive, close to the Duomo
and to the Treasure of San Gennaro and only 100 metres from the Archaeological Museum, MADRE Museum also offers an opportunity to renew the tourist vocation of an area with a wealth of social values which need to be revived and a cultural heritage which needs to be newly discovered. On the first floor of MADRE Museum thare are the permanent works by Clemente, Lewitt, Long, Bianchi, Fabro, Koons, Paladino, Kounellis, Horn, Paolini and Serra; the exhibition route on the second floor winds its way through the most significant moments of artistic language from the end of the Fifties to the beginning of the Nineties.
