The archaeological museum is situated within the archaeological area of Paestum. It contains all the finds from the city and surrounding area of Poseidonia-Paestum and illustrates the evolution and transformation of the city from the foundation of the Greek colony between the late 7th century and the early 6th century BC until the establishment of the Roman colony. The museum has an extraordinary collection of painted tomb slabs, including the most famous Tomb of the Diver. A section of the museum is devoted to the archaic metopes and there are also a series of votive objects: fragments of terracotta, vases and objects made of metal and bone. Open from 8.30 am to 7.30 pm with last admission at 6.50 pm On the first and third Monday of the month, the museum is open from 8.30 am to 1.40 pm with last admission at 1.00 pm
